Cranberry Pear Mulled Cider

When the temperatures drop, sometimes a cold drink is the last thing we want to sip on. But a warm cider both sweet and spiced? Yes please. Bonus: this recipe will fill your home with the most delicious scent. Did we mention it’s only 6 ingredients? Easy!

.Ingredients

  • 1 gallon high quality apple cider
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 star anise
  • 1 Bosc pear
  • whole cranberries (optional, for garnish)

Method

Add the apple cider, spices* and pear to a large, tall-sided pot. Warm over low heat to just below a simmer. Heat for at least 1 hour before serving. Serve straight out of the pot, ladle into mugs. Garnish with cranberries (optional)

Eggnog – Without the Alcohol

Controversial opinion: I love eggnog. I know the store-bought versions have developed a reputation for tons of sugar, the heaviest of creams, and a concoction of chemicals to mimic spice flavors, but this homemade one? With nutty holiday spices mulled together with condensed milk and cream over a warm stove? With a full body taste that strangely comforting and nostalgic even thought it is no one’s holiday tradition that I know of?  Worth a try (and a lactaid pill). Just do it. Heck, call it a meal. It’s the holidays.

.Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sweetened, condensed milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg, plus more for garnish
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

Combine milk, cloves, cinnamon and condensed milk over low heat in a deep sauce pan until the mixture is no longer chilled and is heated through. Slowly increase the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a low boil, careful not to allow a rolling boil. In a medium bowl, combine the eggs and sugar. Beat eggs until lightened in color and fluffy. Slowly temper the eggs by adding about 1 tbsp. at a time of the hot milk mixture into the egg and sugar mixture. Once enough of the milk is in the egg mixture, pour it all back into the saucepan. Heat over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently, until thickened enough to leave a clean line on the back of a spoon. Add the heavy whipping cream, nutmeg and vanilla extract to the mixture and heat through. Do not bring to a boil. Strain the mixture using a fine mesh strainer to catch the spices. Place in an airtight container in the refrigerator and let cool for at least one hour, preferably longer. Serve cold. Garnish with additional nutmeg if desired.  holiday mocktail recipes

Honorable Mention: Athletic Brewing NA Beer

No recipe here, just a great recommendation. If mocktails and alcohol aren’t your thing (or you just need a break), Athletic Brewing has changed the game when it comes to brewing non-alcoholic beer. From Hazy IPAs to golden ales to an “Extra Dark” stout flavor, these will satisfy your quench for a “cold one” to sip on without the side effects – or the flatness that can come with NA beers. Happy holidays, indeed.

Yeah, no one feels like making homemade eggnog. Especially in 2020 (unless it’s the next sourdough trend, and if that’s the case, then how far have we fallen?) Anyway, combining spiced rum and bourbon adds a wonderful depth to this eggnog akin to a warm hug. Choose your favorite ‘nog – this list can help – and get spikin’. Swedish Glögg

Glögg is a Swedish spiced mulled wine with a little more oomph than your usual ho-hum forgotten-ten-dollar-wine-you-threw-on-the-stove-and-hoped-for-the-best. In Sweden, glögg is served at every meal in December and signifies the start of the holiday season. The number of ingredients makes this look a little more complicated than it is; once on the stove, this glögg will fill your home with the scent of the holidays.

.Ingredients

  • 2 cinnamon sticks, broken into pieces
  • 1 tsp. cardamom pods
  • 1 small piece ginger, peeled
  • Zest of orange
  • 6 whole cloves
  • cup vodka
  • 1 750-ml bottle dry red wine
  • 1 cup ruby port or Madeira
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla sugar
  • blanched whole almonds
  • cup dark raisins

Method

  • Crush cinnamon and cardamom in a mortar and pestle (or put them on a cutting board and crush with the bottom of a heavy pot.) Transfer to a small glass jar and add ginger, orange zest, cloves, and vodka. Let sit 1 day.
  • Strain vodka through a fine-mesh sieve into a large saucepan; discard spices. Add wine, port, granulated sugar, vanilla sugar, almonds, and raisins and heat over medium just until bubbles start to form around the edges.
  • Ladle glögg into mugs, with a few almonds and raisins in each one. Keep any remaining glögg warm over very low heat until ready to serve (do not let it boil).

Yeah, We Had To: Holiday Cocktail Recipes That’ll Make Santa Smile

Yeah, We Had To: Holiday Cocktail Recipes That’ll Make Santa Smile

Happy Holidays! The holidays may look a little different this year, but wherever you are, you could probably use a cocktail. Our last Quarantine Cocktail Recipes to Spice Up Your Routine was a hit. So, we slapped on a Santa hat, sprinkled a little magic, and found some new ones. There is so much choice out there for some exciting cocktail recipes that are fitting for the chillier months such as a banana split cocktail or white snowball.

However, we realised that either those recipes could be a little tricky to make as they require a wide range of ingredients. Not the alcohol, that should be pretty easy to obtain, provided you can find alcohol delivery in Westminster CO or wherever you may live. Also, finding the other ingredients might not be as easy for some people.

Alongside that, some people might find certain ingredients a bit unusual; for instance some individuals might find the seeds from bananas, here are seeds in bananas, a little off putting when drinking a cocktail, or they might find them a bit tricky to make. Therefore, we have decided to put together a list of cocktails that should be both enjoyable and easy for you to make! You may also serve these holiday cocktail recipes to your guests. You could probably serve these cocktails to your guests in an antique silver glass. It would add a lovely traditional touch to your Christmas festivities. Using vintage cutlery (which you can find at an antique silverware shop) can also serve as a conversation starter during dinner. Dinner guests, who are unfamiliar with the origins of the silverware, or who simply want to know more about how it was acquired would often ask the host for information about it.

Quarantine Cocktail Recipes to Spice Up Your Routine

Quarantine Cocktail Recipes to Spice Up Your Routine

Homebound (as much as possible) has become the new normal. This has meant long days and nights by ourselves with only the TV for company. In these lonely times, many might turn to a sex doll to spice up those cold nights alone in bed. But has your quarantine cocktail game stayed stagnant? Just because we can’t go out to cocktail bars doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a refreshing mojito or a fruity sex on the beach. Thanks to things like these happy hour kits, it’s now easier than ever to make your favorite drinks at home and enjoy them without worrying how you’re going to get home. Plus, once all of this is over, you may even have picked up a new skill that you will be able to use to impress friends, family, dates, etc. If you’re at college and you can’t find someone to get you the ingredients for these drinks, then why not go to a website like https://fakeyourdrank.com/ to great a great fake ID and start making your own cocktails now!

Like, a cannabis cocktail could be one such recipe. In order to make a cannabis cocktail, you may need to purchase a cannabis tincture from an online seller such as HiBrid Co, or you could choose to make the cannabis tincture yourself at home. If you want to make the cocktail, preparing the tincture may take some time, so purchasing one could be a better option. You might only need to mix 2-3 drops of cannabis tincture into your preferred alcohol and consume it. If you believe that 2-3 drops are insufficient, you can always add a few more drops to make it stronger.

Other than that, perhaps you’ve heard about the aptly-named “quarantini” or watched Ina Garten’s cheeky cosmopolitan “for one” video, but these fun and unique quarantine cocktail recipes will break up your everyday routine. Give yourself something to look forward to this happy hour! Or any hour! I’m certainly not judging. I’m drinking wine as I write this. Cheers!

Rosy Gin-Kombucha Cocktail

Why not get those probiotics in while you can? Kombucha cocktails are totally gaining traction, especially during quarantine. This Rosy Gin-Kombucha Cocktail from Bon Appetit looks super delicious and reviews are off the charts. I love Campari but feel like I completely neglect it or don’t even know what to do with it, so I’m excited to experience it in this new way.

BTW, if you don’t have Campari or this doesn’t appeal to you, you could try this super easy “Moscow Mule” subbing kombucha for ginger beer. Or try any of Bon Appetit’s 3 cocktails that prove kombucha and booze are made for each other.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces gin
  • 1 ounce Campari
  • ounce fresh lemon juice
  • teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger
  • 5 ounces original kombucha, chilled
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Method

Stir gin, Campari, lemon juice, and ginger in a pint glass or measuring cup. Stir in kombucha. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into an ice-filled Collins glass.

Garnish with lemon wedges.

Spicy Margarita

That’s right – spice up a classic! I love a classic margarita with fresh lime juice, but I gotta say – I have a soft spot for the spicy ones. I’m excited to try this recipe from Cointreau that adds a dash of cilantro, too.

.Ingredients

  • 2 oz Blanco Tequila
  • 1 oz Cointreau
  • 0.75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 2 slices jalapeño
  • 2 sprigs fresh cilantro

Method

  • Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake until well-chilled
  • Strain into a chilled Old Fashioned glass
  • Garnish with a jalapeño pepper

The Refreshing “Untimely”

Talk about a fitting name in a piece about quarantine cocktail recipes! DidI do it on purpose? Maybe. But seriously, this is a refreshing combination of gin, cucumber, lime, and a kick of jalapeño from Miki Nikolic, bar director at Double Dealer, New Orleans, that will be my ultimate go-to cocktail once as the weather starts getting warmer and I’m looking for something light and crisp.

.Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz. Gin
  • 1.5 oz. Cucumber water
  • 0.5 oz. Lime juice
  • 0.5 oz. Simple syrup
  • 0.5 oz. Jalapeno simple syrup

*For the cucumber water, peel and juice one cucumber

*For the jalapeño simple syrup, use 5 jalapenos for every 15 oz. of simple syrup

Method

  • Combine all ingredients to a shaker with ice.
  • Shake and strain into a glass.

A Simpler Piña Colada

Lately, I’ve had the biggest case of wanderlust – scouring travel blogs, scrolling longingly through destination tags on Instagram, even looking a tight booking site “just to see” for whenever this all goes back to normal. So I couldn’t help it…here’s a piña colada recipe. Because what says”getaway” more than a tropical frozen blended drink? The best part: this one is only 3 ingredients! Much simpler and a little less added syrupy sugar than more classic recipes so you can feel good about drinking it

.Ingredients

  • 1 pound (about 3 cups) frozen pineapple chunks
  • 3 ounces (1/3 cup) white rum
  • 2/3 cup coconut milk
  • optional garnishes: fresh pineapple slices, maraschino cherries, cute paper umbrellas

Method

  • Combine all ingredients together in a blender, and puree until smooth. If the mixture is too thick, feel free to add in extra water or coconut milk to help it blend.
  • Serve immediately, topped with your desired garnishes

Espresso Martini

An espresso martini always feels to me like a decadent treat or completely off-limits, and certainly only reserved for a hip speakeasy old-school Italian restaurant (at least in my mind). But we’re all at home, so why NOT have an espresso martini in a matching sweatsuit at 4 in the afternoon? Do you, baby, do you. Try this sophisticated quarantine cocktail recipe from Town & Country.

.Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Grey Goose Vodka
  • 1 oz espresso
  • .75 oz premium co ee liqueur
  • 1 pinch salt

Method

  • Add all ingredients together into a shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with salted dark chocolate powder.

As Ina would say: “How easy was that!” We hope you enjoy these easy at-home quarantine cocktail recipes and give them a try! It’s important to take some time for yourself and relish the little things at a time like this. Cheers!
